Abstract

" Bangladesh is experiencing significant climate changes in the last few years, which are affecting agriculture, disturbing farmers livelihoods and food supply chain. The vulnerability of climate change increases because of its geographical location. It produces frequent floods, cyclones, droughts as it has long coastline and many rivers flow through this country. The aim of this study is to find out the relationship between climate-smart agriculture, food security and rural livelihoods in Bangladesh. This research was performed using secondary dataset collected for the period from 1995 to 2024 from the World Bank and includes five development related indicators. The collected data was organized and analyzed using Microsoft Excel through Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis. It was found that the average forest area and access to electricity was 14.58% and 57.66% respectively. While safely managed drinking water and renewable electricity output had a mean of 56.43% and 3.56% respectively. The percentage of safely managed drinking water and access to electricity illustrates a positive growth. While the average forest area and renewable electricity was alarming for future. The results of Pearson correlation analysis indicate that access to electricity was positively correlated with GDP per capita which is (r = + 0.947) and also correlated with safely managed drinking water services which is (r = + 0.978). On the other hand, forest area was negatively correlated with access to electricity which is (r = −0.903) and GDP per capita (r = −0.760) but it had a positive correlation with renewable electricity output which is (r = +0.911). Analyzing correlation, it is noticeable that growth of GDP is highly related to proper access of electricity. Based on this analyzation, it can be concluded that achieving sustainable development in Bangladesh requires greater investment in renewable energy. "
