American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) hosted "From Research to Reality: How We Built the EV/PHEV Feasibility Project" on 31st August 2026 at the Media Studio, showcasing how a student-led academic research initiative evolved into a comprehensive feasibility analysis with potential industrial applications. The event brought together academic leaders, faculty members, students, and industry representatives to reflect on the research journey and explore opportunities for stronger collaboration between academia and industry. The program began with a book unveiling ceremony led by Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain, Dean-in-Charge, AIUB. Also present were Dr. Mehzabul Haque Nahid, Head, Department of Management Information Systems; Dr. Mustafa Hasan, Assistant Professor and Chief Investigator of the research; and Prof. Dr. Kamruddin Md. Nur of the Department of Computer Science, along with industry representatives Shah Tazul Islam Rumel, Managing Director of 3 Leaf Technology Ltd.; Ronty Chowdhury, International Research Team Leader; and Prof. Alamin Mishu, Chief Financial Officer.
The project assessed the feasibility of Electric Vehicle (EV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) adoption in Bangladesh, approached not as a conventional classroom exercise but as an industry-oriented feasibility study examining the practical requirements and challenges of EV/PHEV adoption in the country. Fifteen research assistants worked across eight groups, each focusing on a specific dimension of the analysis, including data collection, risk assessment, EV infrastructure development, infrastructure mapping, go-to-market strategy, production processes, and overall market feasibility. At the event, the student researchers shared their journey from identifying the research problem and collecting data to analysing risks, assessing infrastructure requirements, and developing market and business strategies, demonstrating how classroom learning could be translated into a structured research output with relevance to real-world industrial decision-making.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain praised the students' efforts and their focus on a futuristic research area, noting that they had taken the initiative to explore the subject ahead of its wider market adoption. Industry representatives echoed this appreciation: Ronty Chowdhury expressed surprise at the depth of work undertaken, while Shah Tazul Islam Rumel showed strong interest in exploring industrial collaboration, indicating potential future opportunities for the students and research team with 3 Leaf Technology Ltd. Building on the project's findings, the research team is now working towards six to eight academic papers and journal publications. The event underscored AIUB's broader commitment to encouraging students to engage in applied research, collaborate across disciplines, and connect academic knowledge with industry needs on emerging technologies that may shape Bangladesh's future.
